The Moody Blues / by Sarah

Who doesn't love blue?  From baby blue to a deep navy? In design, it is probably one of the most universal colors and I never seem to tire of it...when done right.  As I was working on gathering images to update my website I came across these projects I have photographed which perfectly emulate how great blue can be.  From modern coastal, to a sweet nursery, blue just feels right.  Scroll down to see some of my favorites.  All Photos by me.

Modern Coastal.

So many shades of blue so little time.  This Nantucket Hotel designed by Annsley Interiors makes use of all of them in that serene coastal feel you expect when visiting a island as rich in nautical history as Nantucket.  And I just love her daring pattern mixing which doesn't feel as intimidating when done in blue.

Baby Boy's Nursery

Erin Gates of Erin Gates Design designed her baby boy's room using soft shades of blue mixed with taupey gray.  Add some warm gold accents and you have baby nursery perfection.  I bet her baby is just soothed to sleep looking at this sweet soft atmosphere.

Traditional Warmth

Blue is a cool tone but I love how this home in Gloucester, MA designed by LDa Architect and Interiors, mixes grey/blue fabrics with wood and brass fixtures creating warmth with a traditional sophistication.  Throw in that amazing blue spiral staircase and the space just goes to a whole new level...literally. (I couldn't help myself.)

The Cool Kids

MediaRoom-5low

A blue pallet mixed with purple and some pops of orange and even bright green, this Cape Cod Summer House, by KMID proves that blue can go with anything and feels perfect on either coast.  I am basically trying to emulate that master bedroom as my house now.

Blue Crush

I can't forget about this amazing Cambridge home of blogger, designer, fashion queen and mommy extraordinaire, Robin Anderson.  Robin can make blue for from electric and cool in her living room to playful and chic in her boys' room.  Oh and don't forget about her fabulous blue kitchen cabinets.  No white kitchen here.

Black Blue

That is literally the name of the Farrow and Ball paint color I choose fro my own Family Room/Library.  Not quite black, not quite navy, this is easily my favorite room in our house.  I designed the built-in to work as both AV center and library; my contractor Dan Shanks and team made my builtin dreams a reality.   I've featured it on this blog before, but couldn't help including it again in this blue room round up.
